What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a holistic therapy that supports people to do what they want to or need to do in life. For children, these occupations include play, learning, making friends and building relationships, self care and everyday routines, coping with challenges or participating in groups.

Some of the ways we may support your child include:

  • Building confidence and self-esteem

  • Introducing attention and emotional regulation strategies

  • Developing fine and gross motor skills

  • Developing play and problem solving skills

  • Teaching social skills and social awareness

  • Assessing the child’s sensory environment and preferences to support participation and inclusion

  • Supporting learning and inclusion in the school environment

  • Supporting family routines to increase the child’s independence

  • Communicating with the child’s team to foster positive relationships, consistency and education

  • Providing resources to the child and their team, to support education and goal attainment

  • Promoting health and well being
